"On December 12, 2006, I was Christmas shopping in Sevierville and parked at one of the many outlets. Upon returning to my vehicle, I started the engine and placed the vehicle in reverse. As I gently accelerated to back out of the parking space, the vehicle did not respond as the transmission seemed to slip. The transmission suddenly caught and jerked into gear. I tried forward, reverse, and everything worked perfectly. However, my 2003 Ford Explorer does not have a stick to check the level, you must place the vehicle on a lift at a service station. I wanted to make sure the fluid levels was correct to prevent any future problems, so I visited several locations and asked to have the fluid level checked. One location told me they would not check the fluid, but they would hook me up for a diagnostic test for a substantial fee. I explained that the transmission was working fine, and I just wanted to check the fluid as a precaution. They still refused. The other locations were busy or told me they couldn't perform the service check on my transmission. Thinking I was going to have to drive to Knoxville or similar distance, I thought of Chip's Transmission repair shop in Sevierville. I went there and talked to Mr. Phil Sims. They had numerous vehicles being repaired, but Mr. Sims worked me into their schedule in a timely manner. They completed the check on my transmission, and did so at a very fair price. I mistakenly thought of a transmission shop as a location for repairs only. However, they perform repairs and many other functions as well. Many thanks to you Phil, for taking time out of your busy schedule to perform a small job for me. Next time I'm going to Chip's Transmissions first!"
I don't know the name of the people who referred us to you, but he said he had always heard you were the best. We made the trip home fine. The car runs as good or better than it did.

"While pulling our 10,000 pound 5th wheel from Michigan to the Smokey Mountains during the 2015 4th of July Holiday we experienced two different problems. The first was we lost first gear about 10 miles from our campground. I found Chips during a google search and used their online service schedule tool to schedule an appointment for Monday morning. Phil contacted me Saturday evening to notify me that I may not be the first appointment due to being closed so his employees could also enjoy the long Holiday weekend, but they would be able to help me as soon as possible Monday morning. Fifteen minutes after my arrival on Monday morning they had diagnosed the problem as a transducer, and begun working on the repair. An hour and a half later I was on my way! Our second problem happened while sight seeing in the Smokey Mountains National Park. The diesel engine in our truck just died it would not stay running more then 5 seconds at a time. I contacted Eric at Chips Transmission, he arranged a tow truck for us, and put me in contact with Terrell at Chips diesel repair. The tow truck arrived within 1 hour and had our truck to Chips prior to closing. The next day Terrell had diagnosed the problem as the fuel transfer pump, and had the repairs made by 11:00am! I can't say enough good things about the level of service and professionalism by ALL of the people at Chips who helped us out in a time of need, not once but twice in the same week!! "You know, when you have to buy a transmission 400 miles from home, you're really "under the gun", because you know if a problem develops you sure aren't able to take it back easily. Fortunately for us, such a problem never arose. I don't think it's an accident that your work help up like it has. Quality is not an accident, it's a process that reflects directly on the person at the helm. Unfortunately for you, the distance between us prevents my bragging about the service I got to result in referred customers for you. Believe this; I have told the story about the broken transmission in the Smoky Mountains to a lot of people in Memphis. It usually comes up when someone remarks, "are you still driving that old Chevrolet"? "How many miles on it"? Of course when I tell them, "enough to get to the moon", they want to know if it's the original engine and transmission. On the issue of quality, let me share a quote from FedEx's Fred Smith. He was speaking to a large group of employees and basically said, "Satisfying the customer in this competitive world is not enough, we must DELIGHT them. Because although satisfied customers will probably stay loyal (emphasize probably), delighted customers multiply". Delighting customers means going above and beyond the industry norms, but the payback means the difference between survival and growth or demise. So much for rambling. I'm sure I speak for numerous customers who are also "delighted", but never took the time to say thanks. You know how it is, we're all so busy that we only tend to speak when it's something to complain about. Thanks for the great deal on a great transmission job!"
